HI SC family, I have had little to no time to dedicate to photography due to major changes in my life over the last few months. Though life is still hectic, I have decided to set some rules for myself to ensure that I continue to develop as a photographer. Rule #1: Post at least one picture a week to SC. So... here is my photo for this week! About the photo: This past summer, while spending time with family in Lagos, Nigeria, i decided to tag along with my mom as she made one of her monthly visits to the market place. It took waiding through disgusting ankle deep black mud (you DO NOT want to step foot in Ketu Market in the height of the rainy season) to meet some really warm and expressive people. This is photo #1 in the Ketu Market series. I know I have a lot to learn re:portraiture so PLEASE be critical! I will be better for it. Thanks, Dayo

The Brooklyn Bridge is probably one of the most photographed landmarks in NYC (if not the entire country). I spent an evening last week trying to put my own spin on it. Please enjoy image #1 in my Brooklyn Bridge Series.

Picture Number 2 from Marcus Garvey Park. This guy saw me taking a picture of Baba Khunle and asked me for his own close up. I like this picture for a few reasons: I loved his hands (the ring on one and the almost finished cigarette in the other) his devlish smile the look in his eyes And the 'almost' candid nature of the shot (i took it while he was getting ready for the final shot) Also, trying to get away from my default monochrome mode, I attempted to desaturate this picture a little bit and I am quite pleased with the results. Please tell me what you think.

I was walking through Marcus Garvey Park in East Harlem one Saturday afternoon and came across a group of African Drummers. I managed to get one of the drummers/drum instructors (Baba Khunle) to pose for this portrait.

According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Street_Seaport), the South Street Seaport is a historic area in the New York City borough of Manhattan, located where Fulton Street meets the East River, and adjacent to the Financial District. The Seaport is a designated historic district, distinct from the neighboring Financial District. It features some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan, and includes the largest concentration of restored early 19th-century commercial buildings in the city. This includes renovated original mercantile buildings, renovated sailing ships, the former Fulton Fish Market, and modern tourist malls featuring food, shopping and nightlife, with a view of the Brooklyn Bridge. I hope this picture captures the charm and beauty of one of my favourite parts of town :)

As I prepare for my move from New York to Chicago, I cannot help but feel nostalgic. I mean I have lived in New York for the past 5 years. In that time I have actually grown to love this city with its rude citizens, filthy side walks, impossible traffic, fascinating history, fantastic culture, amazing restaurants... (i'm sure you get the message).   I LOVE this picture because I managed to capture 5 things that are unique to my city:   ~ the yellow taxi (which is the first blurr in the foreground of the picture ~ the New York MTA Bus (which is in the lower right hand corner of the picture) ~ the NYPD police car (behind the blurry yellow taxi) ~ New York City Hall (which also has the honor of being the oldest City Hall building in the United States as well as a National Historic Landmark. It was built btw 1803 and 1812) ~ the sign post (directing traffic towards 3 very distinct New York locations - JFK Airport, Brooklyn Bridge and FDR Drive)   I know that no mater where I find myslef in the years to come, this city will remain in my blood. Or as Jay-Z more eloquently put it:   "Yeah, Yeah, Imma up at Brooklyn, now Im down in Tribeca, right next to DeNiro, But i’ll be hood forever, I’m the new Sinatra, and since i made it here, i can make it anywhere"

Still shooting from the plane, I managed to pull off yet another interesting shot thanks to miss thing in seat 11A. While yesterday's picture reminds me of a sea in the midst of a tempest, this picture reminds me of a calm sea or maybe even of a desert with white sand?   What do you think?

After sleeping through half my flight from Chicago to New York this past weekend, I woke up to the sound of the food cart creaking down the isle and a squalling infant determined to wake the dead. Irritated, i looked out my window and was immediately awestruck by what I can only describe as an endless sea of clouds. In retrospect, I probably should have given that child a gift because without her I would have slept right through this shot! Enjoy :)
